Keeping Up IS Leveling Up for Personal Growth

The satisfaction that comes from doing something new, big or outside of your comfort zone cannot be beat. So many people live for that kind of rush. However, personal growth doesn't always look like achieving that huge goal or doing that next thing.
New achievements and habits have to be incorporated into real life, across time, to truly result in personal growth.

Growth Over Time = Change Made x Life Reps
Growth doesn't have to look like new changes with EVERY life rep though.
Maybe you've come off of a really busy season or you are currently in the midst of one at this moment.
As you look back on your busy season, you realize that despite the hectic schedule, you managed to maintain your routines.
That feels good but if this were me, my personal-growth-and-productivity-focused brain would immediately think, 'What's next?'.
That thinking can easily feel overwhelming and too much to really consider, especially if you are about to move into another busy season.
As a side note, I like to manage and plan one season at a time. We are season-based beings and understanding that your needs change with each life season has helped me manage all of it better. Read more of what I have written on seasons here.
But let's step back a minute to a moment not so far in your past...
Your routine now includes a new habit. You decided to add this new thing into your routine and figured out that if you paired this habit with another one you already have, it's easier than you thought.
You have given it a good month where you consistently did what you said that you would do. It felt good and surprisingly, it wasn't as difficult to incorporate as you thought.
You find that during conversations with friends, you casually mention that you have been doing this new thing for a period of time and when you say it, you realize that you are now just doing it and hardly think about the effort involved.
Kudos!
As you look forward in your next season, I want to give you some permission if you need it - to not ask, 'What's Next?".
Instead, consider thinking about this:
Growth doesn't always look like taking on another thing, building a new habit or trying something new.
You won't find this in the personal growth space a lot but if you are seeking growth throughout your life, the maintenance of your habits and routines are equally as important as the establishment of them.
Sometimes leveling up simply means keeping up. As we establish good habits and routines to support new goals, some weeks, we just need to keep the habits and routines going.
This is practical-life-personal-growth.
Not every week is a record breaking, goal busting week….and that is ok!
Personal growth comes from consistently trending up over time.
Don't we all need to hear that occasionally? I know that I do.
I just want to encourage you to keep up the habits and routines that have been serving you across seasons….and be pleased with that.
Your next season of growth may look like keeping up all the balls in the air while also keeping up with growth already established. Remember, more reps for the last change made help solidify that as growth.
It's a different level of satisfaction, for sure. Not every season is meant for a new change, some are there for us to get the reps that lead to sustained growth.
Think growth, friends.
